Pedestrian seriously injured in hit-and-run car accident

Portland is well known as one of the most bike-friendly cities in the nation. Unfortunately, our reputation as a pedestrian-friendly place is not quite as stellar.

Recent hit-and-run pedestrian accidents in Portland and Vancouver have jarred local residents. Hopefully, area motorists will take notice and slow down as they travel residential streets and keep a sharper eye out for people on foot.

Law enforcement officials said a 20-year-old Vancouver man was badly injured in a hit-and-run crash shortly before 6 a.m. on a recent weekday.

Police said they found an abandoned vehicle nearby in a fast-food restaurant parking lot and have determined that it was the vehicle in the accident.  The vehicle was reported stolen before the crash near the corner of Northeast Andresen Road and East Fourth Plain Boulevard.

At the time The Oregonian article was written, the driver had not yet been found, police said.

The accident was less than a day after a Vancouver hit-and-run which left two women with injuries.

Their injuries were described as non-life-threatening, The Oregonian reported.

Media reports said the two women, both in their 70s, were struck by a 1990s Dodge Caravan.

When injuries occur to older people, recoveries can be prolonged and painful, and of course, medical expenses can quickly become enormous.

When younger people are seriously injured, as in the case of the 20-year-old, they can in many cases be facing a lifetime of health problems and physical therapy. Again, medical bills can be massive.

In cases such as these, it makes sense for accident victims to sit down with a personal injury attorney to discuss the evidence and the available legal means to obtaining compensation for the damages they have suffered.
